The only 40-hour ADR Institute of Ontario accredited advanced course of its kind.

Mediation in Racialized and Cultural Contexts

All Cultures Conflict Resolution Services offers a uniquely designed online Advanced Course “Mediation in Cultural Contexts”. This program is essential for culturally appropriate mediation practice, managers and other leaders who operate in multi-cultural and globalized contexts.

This course will equip participants with practical skills for managing inter-cultural relationships. Upon completion, participants will gain specialist skills in inter-cultural mediation. Participants will examine differences in perspectives between dominant and non-dominant cultural groups in order to promote design and delivery of inclusive services.

Participants will:

  • Examine and critique normative dispute resolution systems and processes to identify gaps related to service in diversity.
  • Discuss the sources and escalators of conflict in race and cultural contexts.
  • Discuss cultural-other understandings of dispute resolution processes and procedures.
  • Explore cultural differences between parties and discuss their relevance to perspectives, identity, dynamics of dispute, and dispute transformation in cultural contexts.
  • Discuss enduring resolution methods to mediate culturally contextualized conflicts, with a view to shifting normative paradigms about the role of culture in conflict.
  • Apply culturally appropriate techniques in simulated mediation exercises to resolve culturally contextualized conflicts.

NOTE:

  1. The ADR Institute does not prescribe the order in which courses should be taken by candidates seeking Chartered Mediator (C.Med ) or Qualified Mediator (Q.Med) accreditation.
